The Thompson Recreation Department offers the town's youth a variety of programs and activities. We invite you to join us for some great acclivities and some FUN!!

ZOME - Construction FUN                                      new program!

Join us for four weeks of after school construction fun!  Zome is a construction toy for kids using plastic rods and spheres -learn about architecture, art, math and bubbles!  Dates tba.

halloween Pumpkin Painting

Get ready for Halloween by painting your very own pumpkin!  Paint faces, designs, colors or whatever strikes your fancy.  The program is designed for students in kindergarten through grade 6 and is taking place on  Oct. 7, 2008

Purely Recreation After School Program

An after school care program designed for children in grades K-8th.  The curriculum includes outside play, gym activities, science fun, arts and crafts, half day field trips and special events.

Mother-Son Event    Night of Knights

Join us for "Night of Knights", a fun-filled evening for Thompson boys in grades kindergarten through 4 and their moms (or other woman

chaperone.)  Knight games!  Snacks!  Crafts!  Friday, May 9, 2008

Father-Daughter DANCE


This year's father/daughter  dance is "Belle of the Ball".  It is for girls in grades K-4th and their dads or other special man in their lives.  Great dance music! Musical Games! Tasty snacks! Craft! Party favors! There is limited space so register early!

American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim summmer


The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program provides instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to give students a positive learning experience.  NEW-Tot and Parent Class

Adventure SUMMER camp 2008
  • Eight weeks of summer fun - a day camp for ages 5-13 held at Quaddick State Park. June 30 - August 22, 2008.  Activities include crafts, sports, nature, field trips,  games swimming, specials, and weekly themes.  Open to resident of all towns.  Before and after care is also available.  Transportaion provided within Thompson.  2008 Camp Reigstration materials should be available May 5, 2008.

American Red Cross Babysitter Training                        Nov.- Dec. 2008

Every parent wants a responsible babysitter! The American Red Cross Babysitter Training Program will help potential babysitters by providing them with some of the skills that this type of service requires. This hands-on, interactive course will get you prepared!

>> WINTER BASKETBALL <<

Thompson Youth Basketball is open to ages 6-14.  Participants cannot attend high school.

It is an instructional league with an emphasis on the social, physical, and emotional development of each player.   The program begins with the player evaluations in November and practice and games begin the beginning of December.  Mandatory player session on Nov. 19/20, 2008.  Coaches andd Assistant Coaches needed.

The Annual Tourtellotte Instructional Basketball Clinic will be held July 7-11, 2008 and is open to ages 7-17.  Call the Recreation office to have a registration form mailed to you.




Bicycle Rodeo

Bicycle Rodeo is for wonderful event for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 14. There will be a bicycle inspection and adjustment session as well as an obstacle course! Prizes and ribbons will be awarded. Program will be June 16, 2007.

Pottery classes for grades 2-6 with Sawmill Pottery of Woodstock, CT.     A variety of methods will be used to make these projects.  New session begins Monday, September 29, 2008.

Cupid's valentine workshop

Kids, join Cupid's helpers for this fun workshop to make 2 valentine projects for you or to give to your family or friends for Valeninte's Day.

Golf (Summer)

Co-sponsored with Thompson Raceway Golf Course for ages 7-17.  The camp will include one hour of instruction each evening including competitive games and course play.  Golf Pro, Dave Hall will teach the camp in a fun and positive way.

hershey track and field meet

 This track and field meet is a free program for Thompson Youth ages 9-14 years of age (as of Decemer 31, 2006).  Participants can enter up to three track and field events.  This year's meet is May 12 at the TMHS track at 3:30 p.m.  Everyone receives a T-shirt and 1st place winners have a chance to advance.

JUMP Rope for Heart

This year's jump rope for heart will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the Middle School gym immediately after school.  The event is for K-4th graders.  Join us in this fun event to raise money for the American Heart Association.

These after school classe are open to K-6th graders.  Beginner and continuing classes are offered Wednesdays beginning October 1, 2008.

Sandi Side of Art


This monthly arts and crafts class is held afterschool in the Mary R. Fisher Elementary Art Room.  The program is designed for students in grades K-4th

Enrich your child's knowledge of art while encouraging creative expression, exploring a wide variety of techniques and materials.  Age-appropriate, hands-on art and craft projects and skills may include clay, painting, collage, mixed media, "trash to treasures", printmaking, stamping, and card making.  See the information sheets attached for dates and times and more details.

Skate Park

The skate board committee is made up of Thompson youth and parents.  To date the group has raised almost $5,000 toward the project.  The Town has also supported the project through the town budget in the amount of $24,000.
Ski Program at Mount Wachusett

This six week ski program is open to students in grades 5-12.  Students ski afterschool once per week beginning Monday, January 5.  Applications are available in the Recreation office, Town Hall, and school offices.  Registration deadline is November 17, 2008.  General information flyer below.

SanTA'S WORKSHOP

Join Santa's helpers for this fun workshop to make two gifts for you family or friends.  The projects include all materials, wrapping and gift cards so they can be brought home ready to give.

Swim & Gym



This after-school program for K-4 is held at Koinonia School of Sports in Thompson.  Kids get to swim in a heated pool and play gym games.
